Description Chinese mid 18th century Nanking Cargo Tea Bowl and saucer wit Café au lait ground glaze to the exterior and blue and white decoration to the interior.
The pattern is known as the Bamboo and Peony pattern. It is painted to the interior to show a double clump of bamboo to the left and peony to the right.
The Nanking Cargo was the second of the Hatcher cargos so called as it was salvaged by Captain Michael hatcher and sold through Christies Amsterdam April 1986
The cargo had been carried on the Dutch vessel the Geldermalsen part of the Dutch East India Company's fleet when it foundered in 1752
